EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES
Forced Plasma Burn - It was noted that the Federation's Starfleet Academy Cadets often engage in a maneuvre called a Starburst. Drive plasma is ignited by a vessel's Impulse Engines and explodes in a cloud of highly radioactive subatomic particulate matter. Klingon engineers noted that this technique provided an effective screen that would temporarily blind enemy sensors for several seconds allowing the Klingon vessel to cloak and manoeuvre into attack position. Klingon engineers modified the standard vents allowing for regular dispersion of warp drive plasma or injection into the Impulse Drive vents resulting in the Plasma Burn (Starburst) Effect. This is a HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL SUBSYSTEM found only on the SonchIy-Class vessels.
Primary Hull Separation - Federation Starships have long had the ability to separate the Primary and Secondary hulls of their vessels, usually in the event of a major disaster requiring evacuation of either hull. Klingon engineers have incorporated this ability into the I.K.C.V. K'Tan, However unlike Federation Starships, both hulls remain warp-capable (Command Module capable of Warp 3 sustained, Secondary Hull capable of Warp 5) and have fully operational weapons systems.
Cloaking Device - Since the capture of this Romulan technology approximately 70 Terran years ago, it has changed little. The device drew significantly more than 70% of available power aboard the standard Bird Of Prey. Klingon engineers have managed to reduce this power consumption to approximately 56% of available power. Under extreme conditions the Superconducting Neutrino Stream may provide 70% of the power required by the cloaking device, which allows main power to power 3 forward and 1 aft photon torpedo tubes OR the dorsal disruptor. However, the power surge created by doing this WILL overload all ships systems in under 8 Terran minutes.
Deflector Shields - Standard issue with the ability to hold warp drive plasma in a stasis field providing cloak effect in nebulae without use of the Cloaking Device. NOTE: Nebulae cause standard shields and sensors to fail. The shield generators will not provide protection from enemy attack in a nebula but will provide visual cloaking (sensor cloak is neither necessary nor possible at this point in time). In normal combat conditions, Shield Strength has been increased to 114% of nominal Vor'cha class Shield Strength due to the addition of the dorsal fin, which allows more Shield Generators to be placed on the outer hull. These Shield Generators can act as a Solar Sail providing 17% Standard Power in a complete Power Subsystem failure; in this event, shields, cloak, weapons and warp drive will be inoperative but Life Support and Impulse engines will operate.
SUMMARY
Construction took place at the New Praxis Shipyard on the order of the High Council. The officers and crew of the I.K.C.V. k'Tan were upgraded to a Destroyer classification at approximately the same time. It was the ruling of the High Council that command of the first experimental SonchIy-Class vessel be turned over to Lt. QelIv tai-Sa'tIr in recognition of his past accomplishments for the Empire.
